Bar Watch-Ranch Dressing

After a couple of months the Ranch Club has reopened with new management and nothing like the radical changes rumored. (earlier story) Haven't been by yet, but we hear the kitchen and dining have been downsized and pool tables added. We are also hearing they are going to have real LIVE bands again. Does this mean the "Bar Death Watch" trend is over and we can all start having some Live Music fun again. WOO HOO!.

New Rayz

The Ranch club story reminded me that Richard Soliz & Brother/BBQ Bob have a new drummer and a fiery new woman singer. Look for the New Blue Rayz at Burger & Brew this weekend. Should be fun to watch. Who knows? Maybe they will play the new Ranch.

Boise Weekly

Bingo!May be the best ever comment/answer to a question from a story.(Boise Weekly-weakly) To bad it is 'anonymous"- anyone that clever should take the credit.

Boise Weekly-weakly

Any one else hearing rumors of turmoil at the Weekly? Sales people quit all the time, but things seem a bit more up in the air now.As long as it doesn't effect the "Martini Mix-Off" everything will be alright, right!

The King Building

Built in 1895 the King stills sit on the corner of 17th and Main. You can see it at the North East the corner of the Downtowner parking lot. The building has a number of historical hand painted signs that have facinated me for years.

Do any of you have old pictures or information? Please let me know, I am working on an article and am having trouble locating much info. I'm up to 1915 in the city directory and it still isn't mentioned. Thanks

Use van for sale

One picture says it all. . . The former J105 Van is for sale on a lot in-Yep, Garden City. Once the KGEM van, then converted to the power colored red and black J Van. It was"designed" by frequent commenter Paul Peterson to silver and pink. J105 never really did recover.

Maxie Moxie

One of the tables at the new Moxie Java in Vista Village(Ok I know the landlord!) is bigger than the entire inside of the old building. This maxie Moxie is a shrine to the coffee gods-Comfortable seats abound, fast internet, and coffee. Plus, the same smiling faces behind the counter and EASY, Easy easy access to the drive thru. Gotta love progress.

Barber Park

The starkly muted colors of Barber Park are powerful reminder of winters success. Yet a spiders' web on a lone berry tell of springs past and future.

It's Monday morning do you need a clocky?

This a story that has nothing to do with anything except for the fact that I can't seem to sleep anymore. Clocky is, quite simply, for people who have trouble waking up.

When the alarm clock goes off and the snooze button is pressed, Clocky will fall off of the bedside table and wheel away, bumping mindlessly into objects on the floor until he eventually finds a spot to rest. Minutes later, when the alarm sounds again, the over-sleeper must get up out of bed and search for Clocky. Because you employ multiple senses to find the clock, you are sure to awake before disabling the alarm. Small wheels enable Clocky to move and reposition himself, and an internal computer helps him find a new hiding spot every day. MIT PHOTO

So I may need one soon! David

Phishing?

As a very frequent user of the internet you would think that I would be hard to fool. OK! Not that hard, but still I have spent years blogging, buying, selling and generally driving this ol' info highway. So what? Well a very clever e-mail almost snagged me yesterday. In one of my e-mail accounts I received an e-mail apparently from Pay Pal, stating that an address in California was added to my account. Since I had just updated my addresses, I FREAKED. Figuring someone was using my account and shipping to their house. I almost clicked the link to "Update" my account but got sidetracked. After a moment it occurred to me to look at my Pay Pal account directly. Yep, you guess it. No new address. The e-mail was an attempt to get me to enter all of my personal information. This trick Darn near worked. So my friends, be careful. The crooks are pretty smart.P>S> I sent the offending e-mail to Pay Pal for their investigation!

Bar watch Kona Cactus

Friend Donald Outram sent this dispatch from Hawaii:... Seems like everyplace has one but you might mention to the folks at the Cactus on Main (when they emerge from their 30 day "remodel") that there's a Cactus West in Kona on the Big Island and it's for sale!

Aloha mon ami Guess the bar biz is hard even in paradise!
