Presto-changeo

Thanks to my ever so smart son, I am back in business. It will take a day or two to clean things up and make this site look like it should.

Colin Lewis

One of the great drink slingers put down the shaker last night and made his famous "last call" for the last time. We will miss Colin's quick pours and quicker banter. See you on the the dumb side of the plank my friend.

Blues Brothers-Reef

The Reef is fast becoming a blues bar. It has been a long time since anyone waited in line to see a local Blues band. The Blues Brothers Rock and Soul Revue hit it big last night. Konke and Minigar were morphed into Jake and Ellwood. Soon toes were tapping and tails wiggled up from seats. Had to go, but it looked like I missed some fun.

Old Highway

There is something romantic about an old highway. Long since replaced by faster and safer interstates. Old highways become something less. They also become something more. Given the chance I'll take the "Blue" road everytime. On a trip to see some waterfalls I was seduced by highways Old; 30, 34 and 78. On 30 I ate at the Oxbox restaurant in Bliss, Homemade Ice Tea, grilled cheese sanny, and a bowl of homemade soup, $3.38. Not one of my usual typos. The total of the lunch was $3.38. Left a fiver and felt like a big spender.

The sky was a little grey for great photos, but I caught a couple. Hope you enjoy.

Found a few choice spots just waiting for spring so, expect more back road wanderings.

Spring time in Downtown Boise

How can you tell when spring has come to Boise? CCDC takes down the Christmas lights. (insert your own editorial here) Inserted from the comments page: Anonymous said... Web Site Switcheroo (or not)/UPDATE

Not sure why I think this will make an interesting blog piece. Step one: (with the smart sons advice) Get a Yahoo hosting account set up. Step one A: Fail miserably. Can't remember old Yahoo name, Try biziqmag, seems to work but no password! Who knows what old e-mail account the "reminder" password went to? Used my current e-mail account. Get "daypixs" as a password. Try, try,try every conceivably combination. Still no clearance. Give up! OK, I'll create a new account. A few of the "screen" names that did work: americanphoto, davidrday, boiseboy,(think I used this already-wonder what the password is?) Boisee.com, mrday. etc. Hey? What about boiseeboy? Works, get in to yahoo.com. Find little tab that says "web hosting" Hope that means blogs too. Think it does. Decided on a (got any ideas how many GB's I need?) plan. Jump hoops. Enter address, d.o.b., mothers ring size, fathers country of origin. Get account. Whew. Still with me?-why? All I need to do is set a password. Pay-up and get started with a new site.

Cut to the chase. Several hoop jumps and a quick tap dance later. . . Neither of my perfectly good credit/debit cards will work!!! E-mail son to ask if I can borrow a cup of credit? Go to sleep.

Stay tuned for more>>> UPDATE:9:00am Thursday...Kid turns be down for loan! See why I call him 'smart". I'll try his mom!

9:15 am Just for kicks attempted an upload. Don't see a picture do you? 7:50 just got back from a Trip to Twin Falls. Picture upload is working. Guess I will have some time to work on my credit. Beautiful water fall photo for Friday!

No pics

Remember the bad old days when the internet didn't work, was painfully slow, or just weird. Today the software that controls this blog was all three. Can't get pics to load at all. So! I will be switching to a new account shortly. Keep you updated. Yes, it might be entertaining to watch and you all will have front row seats. Hopefully, it won't be to much pain for me and fun for you.

Don't Drink Green Drinks

Under the headline of "No bar ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American drinking public." John Hecht sends:On St. Patrick's Day, you might get pinched for not wearing green. Does drinking a green cocktail count?

Alberto's Leprechaun Mor-jito 2 oz. Bacardi light rum

Several mint leaves

Juice from two limes

Two splashes soda water

2 tablespoons sugar, plus extra for garnish

Dash green creme de menthe

Marinate mint in rum and lime juice in a pint glass for 30 seconds. Dip rim of cocktail glass in creme de menthe, then dip in extra sugar. Fill pint glass with ice, add soda water, sugar and crme de menthe. Shake. Strain into cocktail glass, garnish with mint leaf.

At least they don't call it a martini. How about a Lepertini. Drink 'till a body parts falls off.

Bummer

This could be just momentary-but I can't currently post any pics. Hope to be back in action soon. If all else fails i will switch providers.

Boise Bald Eagle

The American Bald Eagle. A grand and magnificent animal. I have been trying to capture this elusive bird for years. Once in Montana I was able to shoot a whole roll of Eagles feeding on Salmon in Glacier National Park. The processor lost the film. Luckily the Bald Eagle has returned to the Boise River. This eagle was soaring along the green belt. He flew over the Boise Cascade Lake behind Veterans park. In what other mid-size town can you pull into a local park, stroll a few minutes and see the symbol of freedom in all of it's glory.

Not sure why the photo won't load. I'll work on it!!!!! For now you can click Here to see the Bald Eagle

Fanci Freez

Since 1947! The Fanci Freez is a blast back to the golden age of fast food. Hand made food. With a look to history the owners have updated and upgraded this old town favorite. The new Freez still excludes 50's charm and captures that place in time. A time when the car was king and summer evenings were spent eating hot dogs and sundaes.

Was just stopping to snap a couple of pics of the beautifully remodeled store but after watching the smiling faces it was no time till I was inside. As the young man behind the counter added even more real ice cream to my shake I began to smile too. My caramel shake was so thick it was work to drink. However I was up to the job and accomplished my task with pleasure.

Gene Harris Jazz Fest

The legacy of Gene Harris is so wonderful. You can hear it in the talent of Paul Titlitson, Curtis Steigers, or his beautiful daughter Niki. It also lives in the many students that have been enlightened at the classes taught at BSU as part of the Jazz festival. Keeping Gene's vision of music and kindness alive in Boise is important. That is what the annual Gene Harris Jazz fest is all about. Start off with club night on the Thursday April 6th and enjoy a whole weekend of world class music. Update from the comment section--__--anonymous wrote: Hey Don't forget Jason Parra and the X factor is also playing. That means your buddy Wayne Levy is Flying in to town to play some jazz keys.

BTW the festival needs volunteers. It is a fun way to participate and get behind the scene. Here are the volunteer details from Gary Siegars: It's that time of year again when we are recruiting for volunteers for the Gene Harris Jazz Festival 2006 on April 6 to 8.

This year's headliners are absolutely exciting. Niki Harris and her Quintet (with Trumpeter Marvin Stamm with the BSU Big Band) will be performing on Friday night and Poncho Sanchez and his Latin Jazz Band on Saturday night. And, of course, a great list of local and national artists on Club night. You can get details about the Festival at http://www.geneharris.org/

The form can be emailed back to me. Please don't hesitate to call me if you have any questions at 869-5363 (cell).

We???re looking forward to seeing you again this year.

B Town Blues!

Do you remember a "Blues From the City of Trees," "A Bucket of Blues"? How about "Another Round?" These cd's showcased all original music from Idaho's very talented musicians. It is past time to belly up and make another recording. The newly energetic Boise Blues Society has decided to do another compilation CD. Consider this an early call to action.

The basic rules are pretty simple. You need to be a member of the Boise Blues Society. Only original material will be accepted. This is a juried competition. Quality will mater.

Style is not a big issue. All types of music can and most likely will be accepted. However it will be judged by the Boise Blues Society! Good Luck
