Yesterday I was wishing for news! Be careful what you wish for, right!Today I get this e-mail from long time friend and contributor Dr. Dave. Dave has been reading and occasionally commenting on Boisee since about the beginning and still sends a missive now and then from his new home in Minneapolis. Happy your safe my friend. We are all sorry for your cities loss. . . Here is Dave's comment.

Comment: From Dr Dave. here is a story for you, 8 lane freeway went down yesterday, I was at work when it happened, but it is pretty close to my route home after work, so I went down to see it, The bridge lay in the water, obstructing water flow in the mississippi river, thousands of people were lined up on the adjacent bridge at midnight, rescue crews were going crazy, black hawk helicopter swooping around with a spot light, and the eerie feeling of shock surrounded the area. Cars were piled up on top of each other, and the water roaring into and past them, a school bus sits along side them in the mess. 7 dead 20 missing, and many hurt.

Been a decade of hard work on the park of Jerry Hardy, but it is paying off at last. Caldwell Blues in the Park has become one of the valley's best music events. This years line up is an impressive combination of local and national acts. Local and notable include Next Exit, Lori B! and the Boys(Including Nathan Jay Moody) and the piano of Danny Beal. As expected, The former Manhattan Grille, Brando’s Loft, and most recently Capitol Grill has folded again. Apparently the rent was near to 5 figures a month!. Not sure what to say that hasn’t already been said. . .

Music on the Lake-Lil Dave

FRIDAY, July 20th at “Music on the Lake” at Lake Harbor - 6 – 9:30 PM  Mississippi guitarist/vocalist Lil’ Dave Thompson will play this coming Friday night from 6 to 9:30 PM at the “Music on the Lake” series at The Waterfront at Lake Harbor Amphitheater located at 3050 N. Lakeharbor Lane (off State Street), Boise, Idaho.  This one night concert will raise funds for the Boise Blues Society’s “Blues in the Schools” program.  Admission is $3.00 per person or $5.00 for a family. Thompson's confident, aggressive guitar solos combine the buzz-saw snarl of Albert King and the sweet, metallic sting of Little Milton, and his unpretentious vocals seem equally influenced by blues and soul.   His visceral, unvarnished music exude swagger, and there's plenty of variety: shuffles, slow blues, junk, Southern strollers, and light jazz. Connector Karma

So looks like AJ's karma has finally caught up to him. After the disasters of Dino’s, Shorty’s and the Les Bois race track. Many were amazed when the Connector House of Catfish & Blues re-opened with the former BSU baller at all.

Arnell Jones has quite a reputation for making life miserable for landlords, employees and customers. Although the food was rumored to be good, we guess Mr. Jones has run out of connections. Good by, hope this is the last time I have to write about this guy.

BBS Picnic 2007

The early crowd The music was hotter than the weather. Sunday’s Blues Society-Sunday Blues was the biggest ever. After talking to several of the “old timers”. We decided that this years was likely the biggest crowd to ever attend a picnic. I’m guessing around 700 people showed up. Thanks to all who came by, dropped off some food and a special thanks to all who donated to make the BBS stronger than ever. JIMMY LOYD RAY

Private Idaho

Had a chance to catch up with Carl Schieder at the blues picnic. He confirmed to Boisee.com that he will be taking over Victor Picana’s Private Idaho slot on KBSU. Sounds as if they will keep the name. Carl has an encyclopedic knowledge of music and his easy, eclectic taste will make this sad transition a bit easier. Glad the powers that be were smart enough to make this decision.

BBS Picnic

It is that time of year again and none to soon. Below is the info from the press release. I'll be sharing announcing duties with Don Paterson and will likely pour a beer or a 100 under the tree with Ms. Jo and her amazing Traveling Bar. Come down bring a couple of cans of food, enjoy the ever so hip and cool vibe.

16th ANNUAL SUNDAY BLUES PICNIC - 2007

Boise, ID- The Boise Blues Society announced today the Sunday Blues Picnic to take place on Sunday, July 15, 2007 at Julia Davis Park, located near Zoo Boise. Concessions will open at Noon and the music begins at Noon and goes until 6:00 pm. Admission is just two cans of food which benefits the Idaho Food Bank. Food, wine, beer, soft drinks, and water are for sale on site. Or bring your own picnic basket but remember “No outside alcohol permitted!” Bring your blankets, lawn chairs, sunscreen and dancing shoes! This event is in its 16th year and is one of the longest running events in the City of Boise, ID.

The headliner is northwest favorite Jimmy Lloyd Rea. JIMMY LLOYD IS A MASTER OF THE 'REAL DEAL, FLY BY THE SEAT OF YOUR PANTS, JUST PLAY THE LOWDOWN ROCKIN', GOOD OLD BLUES. IF YOU WANT IT PRETTY AND FANCY AND OVER-REHEARSED, YOU’VE GOT THE WRONG GUY. JLR KEEPS IT LOWDOWN, LOUD, ROWDY AND ROCKIN'. GOOD, BIG GROOVIN' BLUES THE WAY IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE. Failure to Thrive!

The Thrive is dead! The Boise Weekly competitor from the Idaho Statesman will issue it’s last issue Tuesday(the 10th). Chalk one up for the local guys.

Where have all the Statesman readers gone? Seems as if no one under 40 reads it and many of us older just can’t find the time to look at stories written out of town filled with info we got on our computers day ago.

Would the last one out of the Statesman building please turn off the lights.

Gas prices shift dramatically.. Major barrier broken.

I know I know, I am beating a very dead horse here. It just still amazes me that when gas goes over say $3.00. Reporters, pundits and politicians all wail. They scream for boycotts, and price fixing, investigations and talk of crisis. When gas prices fall say below $3.00, not so much!

Oh, so Modern

Been trying to get to the Modern bar in the Linen District for weeks. The reason and seasons just haven't aligned. So I think I will post this succinct and nice review/e-mail from good friend Vivian P. . . . I went to the new "Modern" bar in the linen district, a little bit eclectic. I had one of their signature drinks, something with a cucumber in it. Not bad, they have a record player that you can play old 45's on in the bathrooms. Anyway, kind of fun. VIV

Ka Boom

I was up in the foothills taking photos of the fireworks. It was so fun to here the oh's and ah's of kids and adults as the big bangs went off over the city.
