ENTER THE LOCAL BLUES CHALLENGE: WINNER TO REPRESENT THE BOISE BLUES SOCIETY IN THE 2008 INTERNATIONAL BLUES CHALLENGE

August 14, 2007 - The Boise Blues Society is pleased to announce that we are sponsoring a blues talent contest in which the winner will go to Memphis to represent the BBS and Idaho in the International Blues Challenge. The 2008 International Blues Challenge semifinals will be Thursday January 31 and Friday February 1 and the finals will be Saturday February 2.

Interested artists must submit a CD at least 20 minutes in length, a short bio, and a photograph. In addition, all participants must be Blues Society members. Bands and solo/duo acts are eligible to enter the competition. The BBS will follow the rules set forth by the Blues Foundation. A full explanation of the rules and criteria may be found on the foundation website www.blues.org, click on the IBC logo. Entries must be received by September 30, 2007.

The entries will be judged by a panel of local musicians who have all previously competed in the contest in Memphis . The panel will select up to three acts (depends on entries received) that will perform at the BBS annual meeting on October 13th (to take place at The Rose Room in downtown Boise). The BBS representative will be determined by the membership as a whole during that meeting.

While the BBS will provide as much financial support as possible, the performers will ultimately be responsible for paying their expenses to the contest. In the past, performers who have gone have had some success garnering donations at their gigs. For more information contact Don Patterson, (208) 342-7263 or Nancy McIntosh (208) 459-8082.

Pat "o-top" Ames was injured by a hit and run driver recently. Like most in the food and beverage industry he has not a dime of insurance. Please come by the nurolux and donate to help him out. Heck, you can even bid on one of my signed photos.PatBenefitFlyer2.jpg

Smokey Beauty

Golden Water Fall-9149.jpgWith fires everywhere in the middle of the state. McCall and Payette lake looked like rush hour LA. But the golden glow at sunrise made for wonderful photos. Enjoy. . .

More sadness Minneapolis

As sad and stark as yesterdays post from (Dr.) Dave Wren was this is even sadder. Again we in Boise morn your cities loss. On 8/3/07, David Wren wrote: the scene was more horrendous than I described it, I know for a fact that the death tole is higher than what they say in the news, I watched as they were pulling bodies out of the river at 12 last night, the visual that won't leave my head is the body of a young lady, probably teen, being brought by boat to the med tents, I assume it is more of a temp mortuary, this young lady was covered in mud and blood, from head to toe, no movement, and very horrifying, I also saw a male child (about 6 years) being brought up the bank with both an arm torn half off and his foot missing. It was a horrific experience to see

From Dr. Dave in MN.

Yesterday I was wishing for news! Be careful what you wish for, right!Today I get this e-mail from long time friend and contributor Dr. Dave. Dave has been reading and occasionally commenting on Boisee since about the beginning and still sends a missive now and then from his new home in Minneapolis. Happy your safe my friend. We are all sorry for your cities loss. . . Here is Dave's comment.

Comment: From Dr Dave. here is a story for you, 8 lane freeway went down yesterday, I was at work when it happened, but it is pretty close to my route home after work, so I went down to see it, The bridge lay in the water, obstructing water flow in the mississippi river, thousands of people were lined up on the adjacent bridge at midnight, rescue crews were going crazy, black hawk helicopter swooping around with a spot light, and the eerie feeling of shock surrounded the area. Cars were piled up on top of each other, and the water roaring into and past them, a school bus sits along side them in the mess. 7 dead 20 missing, and many hurt.

Summertime Blues

Well, not a thing seems to be happening here in Treetown. Dog days of summer, the heat, the fires? Not sure. Got news? Tell us a story. Write me a letter. Anything to get me out of those ol' summertime blues.

From the big time, we can look foward to Paul Rishell and Annie Raines as well as Andrew Jr. Boy Jones and the Mike Bader band. Mark your calandar for Both Friday and Saturday August 10th & 11th!!!

Idaho tour part #1

Didn’t get to make a full loop of the state but did managed almost 500 miles on Thursday. North on 55 through Tamarack and Mc Call and over and up 95 to Riggins. Climbed to the Seven Devils and then headed back on mostly dirt roads from Indian Valley into Emmett. It was a little smoky for wide vistas but here are some of what I shot today.Ann Frank bench-8438.jpg

May get a calendar out of this great state yet!

graffitti

Ann Frank bench-8434-web.jpgThere is a certain randomness to this small bit of graffiti that I find enchanting. Why Anne Frank, and why in silver on a bench on 8th street in downtown Boise?
