You said what?

Been taking some heat in the comment section of late. I love it! What started as a blog for a small group of friends and coworkers has become something more. Last month over 8000 people wandered by. Wow and thanks. As for the comments, well. Boisee.com is what it is. See notice to readers.

Boisee.com is my opinion, my likes, and dislikes. I write about what I know. Someone recently accused me of "journalism." I assured him that any journalism found here was entirely by mistake. Integrity hopefully-real news-not so much.

Sometimes I will post a rumor and label it as such. Yes, now and then I am wrong. Mostly I get it close. If you disagree, or I get it wrong-your welcome to come on in make a comment and say so.

Liquor up front. . .

The real estate gurus are reporting that a tenant for a big “double” bar is looking in downtown Boise for a location. What is a double bar? It is a clasic idea, you put one type of music and vibe in one end. A differnt style in the other. So country up front,  live rock, or a DJ in back. Done right it can appeal to at least two types of customers, the nightlifers like only having to pay one cover.

The original Shorty’s started like this, go back further and you have the Rockin’ Rodeo  across from BSU. It can work.

Wouldn’t it be very cool to see downtown be a Mecca of great music and fun times.

Downtowns a Buzz

If this was a real news site, you would have to call this BREAKING NEWS. Insiders are telling us that the old Funny Bone is going to be remodeled into a good old fun time bar. Think the Bouquet back when it had Blues, or Pengillys back when it had smoke. If you drink in any of the places you read about in Boisee.com you will find familiar faces behind the bar. We are also told that the room will feature live music and local art! All I need is $4.00 Red Label's and I'm there. More soon.

Photo Contest-winner

If you combine DK and Phred’s answers you have a winner. So I will give them both a print. This is an image of the Koenig vodka distiller. It was custom designed to make alcohol out of Idaho Russet potatoes. The vodka created has a unique and sweeter taste than the usual corn based vodkas.

Boisee Florida Connection

Recieved this e-mail this morning, thought I would share. Wayne is one of the cool guys. To bad he got out of town before my second dance lession. Here is his letter:

to me

Thank you Mister Day. Just want you to know that Boisee is my connection to Boise. Things are great here is Florida, my mother 's doing great, during the day I work at Ronsonet Buick, GMC ( my classmate is the owner) and it allows me to play with A-list national and international smooth jazz artist such as Matt Marshak, U-nam and Jeff Kashiwa. John Nemeth played the Bradfordville Blues Club near Tallahassee Florida last year I surprised him and he introduced me to the audiece, we hung out and had a good time.

Thank you for your site I like it a lot , I get to see my old friends in a place were I spent 14 yrs of my life playing music and developing relationships. I called Paul and he is recovering daily. Thanks again.

Love Always from the Sunshine State

Nothing more fun. . .

then a room full of musicians of a Sunday afternoon. OK, maybe they look a bit rough, so maybe might have just woken up. The generosity of this music/bar community  always make me smile. The benefit for Paul Peterson is happening around me now. The Ha’ Penny is full of rockers, divas, and bluesmen, and the vibe is full tilt boogie. Spike(yep that Spike) is working crowd with the auction. I’ll post some pics, tomorrow.

Thanks to all who helped.

Milky Way to close.

Gotta admit this one surprises Boisee. Frankly we have heard the hints and rumors and could not belieive them! The Milky Way is closing as of this Saturday. Bummer!

From their start in the basement of the Carrols building, Milky Way has always been one of our favorites.

Expect to see some of the staff at the Bonefish.

That means powerhouse bartendter Kevin Farney is “on the beach” so the Martini Mix-Off is wide open.

Forbes Likes Boise

Forbes magazine has Boise in many of it's top ten lists. Last week it was terrorists, before that we were "lustful" Now we have good water. . .

Boise City, Idaho

Boise ranked in the top five for lowest levels of lead in its drinking water. But the "City of Trees" had higher levels of haloacetic acid, bacteria and turbidity

Enought already.

We can and we should

My friend Mike Gudgus is working on a HUGE project to benifit MSTI. Take a look at the picture he sent. That is the 1st 4 of the SIX foot tall letters filled with crushed cans. Here is some info from Mike's e-mail.
The letters will spell out RECYCLE. Each letter stands 6 feet tall, 4 feet across and are about 16 inches thick. We are filling them with crushed aluminum cans. After the project is complete we will be donating the money from all the cans to the St.Lukes MSTI, for Breast Cancer. We are looking for all types of cans, crushed, or not. They can drop off the cans at our office, Coolightwest/Worldaglow, 208 East 37th St., Suite 10, Boise, Idaho 83714. They can also e-mail me at mgudgus@yahoo.com to arrange a pickup. If anyone has any questions about the donation of cans they can also contact Camille Ramsey at St. Lukes. Thanks much dave, every can will help.
Best Regards,
Mike

For the benifit of Paul Peterson

Dear Music Fans,Paul Peterson is a longtime area singer/songwriter/bandleader who also has put on benefits for worthy causes. In addition, he has hosted many weekly jam sessions to help the local music scene. He has rarely, if ever, taken money for this job and instead has turned over the wages(usually $50 each)to the jam band that he works with. Paul recently suffered a heart attack that has left him completely unable to work for at least two months. So, a whole BUNCH of local musicians have volunteered to play an ALL AGES marathon fundraiser for Paul on Sunday, April 20 at the Ha' Penny Bridge in BoDo(next to the Big Easy) from 2:00-8:30PM. The music starts at 2:00PM sharp with Americana legend the Pinto Bennett Trio,
