Last chance to see the "Metal Series"

The Gallery at Hyde Park is presenting my “Metal Series”  The show only runs through the end of the month. This is the last time that this set of images will be displayed together. Photography is a quest, an adventure. With a camera or two and a bouncy yellow lab, I search to find what the world wants me to show you.

An aging black staircase slashing down the back of a red urban landscape, the wide vista of a frigid winter morning. Red rust against the chrome of an old gas pump, maybe a single flower glowing in a desert sunset?

I am never quite sure.  Over the next hill or around the corner, I seek to show you the world in a way that will make you feel better connected. 

 

Powerful images are everywhere and I love the journey to find them. 

 

 

 

 

As a photographer I have always been fascinated with pushing the limits of presenting work. 

The Metal Series comes from the simple idea. “Wonder if I can print on Metal?”

It took months and a lot of weird chemicals, sand papers, and determination but the answer is yes!

This location has seen a whole group of bars and restaurants come and go. Including the very fun and very missed City Grill. Gotta wish the new group luck. Personally I think the corner is jinxed.

Congrats to Jim Teeter for bringing Dikki Du and his krewe to the Sunshine. The 1st of many blues gigs on the schedule for the year. It was great to see the room rockin to a couple of sets of up beat fun blues music. I'll be back next week.dikki-du-0230

Looking for a mime with a drinking problem (Boise)

The peeps of Uncle Boise need a mime to accompany us on our First Annual Tattoo Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, March 14. The mime needs to have a drinking problem as we'll be strolling through the land of intoxication while visiting the best dive bars downtown Boise has to offer. If you're a mime, or know one, and want your habit sponsored by us for the evening, all the mime needs to do is pub crawl with us, drink, and do whatever it is that a mime does. We'll even take care of the mime's transportation to and from the event, because mimes should never drive drunk. 

Interested mimes should reply to this ad. Oh, and please, no wanna be mimes, you need to have your own mime outfit and face paint. 

An entire mime troop would be awesome, especially if one's a midget.

Cool New Teenage Jam

Blues Jam/Jazz Jam   

We are inviting Treasure Valley teenagers to join with other young musicians to try out their talents and learn to play together at a blues jam/jazz jam.  The jam will be supervised by adult volunteers and lead by experienced teenage musicians.  Everyone will have a chance to play; first come/first served. 

The first jam will be Sunday, March 15th from 4 to 7 pm at the Sockeye Grill on Cole Road.  We expect this to be a weekly event, although the next event is scheduled for March 29th to accommodate Spring Break.    

We are advertising through local schools, BSU, notices to private music teachers, and by listing the event in the Boise Weekly and the Idaho Statesman.  Posters are attached.  Please print them out and post them if you’d like to help publicize this event. 

Rich O'Hara and Marty Guerra orchestrated this event.  Rich is the father of Patrick O’Hara, a junior at Timberline who plays guitar and harmonic.  Marty has two young sons and several private students who play drums.    

The Sockeye Grill was selected because it offers all-ages access, food and beverage service, a room capable of accommodating 50 – 100 people, a central Boise location, and a stage.  Marty and Rich will provide band equipment.  Musicians need only bring their instruments.

Betty L Blades

We lost a champion this week. My mon-in-law Betty Blades passed quietly. She was one of those remarkable people who accepted you and love you for it. Mom Betty We will miss you.
