Also don't forget the Brick Oven Bistro. I will be placing three or four of my larger works there for the 1st.

David R. Day-Toot Toot

Things are great in the world of David R Day Fine Art. Two of my metal images have been juroried into the Art Source Gallery's annual contest. The winners will be announced 1st Thursday July 2nd.

I will also be on Display at the Brick Oven Bistro on the Grove for at least the month on July AND I will have a small but powerful grouping of work at the new Ophidia studio by the VAC in Garden City.

Oh, and take a look at a one of a kind art piece, designed exclusively for the back bar at Jo's new Sunshine Lounge.

OK, my arm is tired from patting myself on the back. THANKS for all the support.

As long as I am blowing my horn, here is a "Self Portrait" from the Oregon Coast.beachghost-1751

A quote-update

Dave thanks for all the help when I went digital. If I had known how good the resolution would be, Iwould have done it 20 years ago.

Downtown-quick update

The old Koi spot on 8th will soon be a restaurant "Osaka." They old Milky will be an Indian theme eatery. Apparently the left Seattle for the 'greener' pastures of downtown Boise. Be interesting to see how that plan stacks up.

KODACHROME-RIP-update

One of the greatest films ever, Kodak Kodachrome will be retired soon.  Know for it's rich colors and a slightly reddish tilt, Kodachrome was a staple for portrait shooters for 74 years.  Sad as I am to see it go, I haven't even seen the little yellow box it came in for years. Guess I am not alone.

Here are a few snappy comments to this story that came from the FaceBook version of this story.

"mama,do'nt take my kodachrome away ay ay "

Do they still make Tri-X? Oh wait . . . you can't buy a film camera anymore. Never mind.
 Mark McClaskey
You can buy a film camera,I have several for sale.

Mom just gave me a nice Nikon, how ironic...

Jo's New Sunshine Lounge

Promised and update on the Sunshine.

Been asked where it is a lot.

It is the bar in the Rodeway Inn, between the Freeway and St. Al's. It opened as the Purple Jester and was a Disco Bar for a while. It quickly became a cool music bar and changed it's name to the Sunshine. Lot's of great local bands played, I remember TT Miller the most.

Who took it over?

Jo Fryberger, a former co-owner of the Blues Bouquet, and current owner of Jo's Traveling bar.

Why is it better?

In about everyway possible. The old Sunshine Feed Store didn't have much to offer. Jo's Sunshine Lounge is already the place for live blues music. Only reopen a couple of weeks, the bar has featured the Insomniacs a fun road band and Short Notice with Cyndie Lee, Richard Soliz and Noble Atherton, plus others. Add in a general clean up, new staff (including yours truely) and your cookin'.

In General

If you enjoy live music, especially blues in an intimate setting, a good drink at a  fair price, a pleasant staff, and good friends. You will love Jo' Sunshine Lounge.

Blues for the youths!

This comes by way of Lori and The Boise Blues Society.
Thanks to the O'Hara family for all their work to bring blues to the younger set.
Greetings,

Our last Youth Jam was quite a success.  A five-piece funky jazz group showed up and played a short set and then stuck around to join in the jam.  We also had a variety of blues players who kept us entertained, and didn't want to stop playing.

This summer we are expecting to hold two jam events.  The first one will be on June 28th and the next one will be sometime in August.

I have attached a poster that announces the June 28th event.  Would you please distribute this information to your colleagues and students?

Thanks for your help.  Hope to see you on the 28th.  It's a great experience.

Men's Journal get Boise too!

This one come from Rick O, he even wrote it!!!! Cool Mr. O! The Best Neighborhoods in America: West

NORTH END / BOISE, ID Boise may sprawl a bit, but the Boise you want has a pretty small footprint, full of bungalow charm, desert canyon ruggedness, renovated warehouses, quirky misfits, and exiled liberals from the countryside. 8 am: Wake up with a run on the Ridge to Rivers Trail System, and get lost on the 130 miles of paths that connect to the North End street grid in half a dozen places. The neighborhood is sandwiched right between trail-packed foothills and the Boise River. 11 am: Rent a cruiser and hit Goldy’s for a huge breakfast before joining the locals at the Capital City Public Market on N. 8th Street. 3 pm: For lunch hit Bar Gernika, where you might find yourself sitting next to the mayor—Boise’s still a town where it’s not uncommon to wait for the light next to the governor. 7 pm: Return to North End for dinner at Bungalow and then a walk in Hyde Park.

Best Places to Live 2009

  • On Tuesday June 9, 2009, 9:38 am EDT

With the decade winding to a close, Americans have grown increasingly reluctant to gas up their moving vans. Last year, the Census Bureau's national mover rate--which represents the percentage of Americans 1 year and older who moved within the past year--hit its lowest level since 1948, when the bureau began tracking the data. And who can blame us? In the face of a terrifying banking crisis, a historic housing crash, and a grueling recession, relocating to a new city isn't exactly on the to-do list. But despite the uncertain economy, the nation's diverse topography presents an enviable menu of great places to find work, retire, or just change your scene.

In selecting our Best Places to Live for 2009, U.S. News took a thrift-conscious approach: We looked for affordable communities that have strong economies and plenty of fun things to do. The cities we selected are as distinct as America itself--ranging from a quaint suburb to a live-music mecca. But whether you prefer hiking through the Rocky Mountains, pulling a fish out of the Atlantic Ocean, or grilling hot dogs at a college football tailgate, here are 10 places that will fill up your daybook without emptying your wallet.

# 4---Boise, Idaho

Although often overlooked, Boise, Idaho, is a terrific destination for those looking to escape out West. With a high-desert climate of sunshine, clear skies, and four distinct seasons, this city of 200,000 makes a perfect base camp for exploring southwest Idaho's dramatic panorama. Choose from the many nearby parks, which total some 2,700 acres, cast a fishing line into the Boise River, or head over to Boise State University for a Broncos football game.

Insomniacs at Jo's Sunshine

The BBS put on a very tasty blues show last night at Jo's Sunshine. Oregon's Insomniacs played the last show of a 30 month run. These road warriors have a very lively set off well written originals and  12 bainsomniacs-1566r standards. If you see these guys on a bill catch it(they opened for John Nemeth now and then) Also, look for more Blues just off the freeway on Curtis.
