An inconvenient Rabbit

The Jackalope
jackalope.JPG.jpgThe jackalope is an antlered species of rabbit, unfortunately rumored to be extinct, though occasional sightings of this rare creature continue to occur, suggesting that pockets of jackalope populations continue to persist in its native home, the American West.

The jackalope is an aggressive species, willing to use its antlers to fight. Thus, it is also sometimes called the "warrior rabbit."

Jackalopes possess an uncanny ability to mimic human sounds. In the old West, when cowboys would gather by their campfires to sing at night, jackalopes would frequently be heard singing back, mimicking the voices of the cowboys. Jackalopes become especially vocal before thunderstorms, perhaps because they mate only when lightning flashes (or so it is theorized).

When chased, the jackalope will use its vocal abilities to elude capture. For instance, when chased by people it will call out phrases such as, "There he goes, over there," in order to throw pursuers off its track. The best way to catch a jackalope is to lure it with whiskey, as they have a particular fondness for this drink. Once intoxicated, the animal becomes slower and easier to hunt.

Jackalope milk is particularly sought after because it is believed to be a powerful aphrodisiac (for which reason, the jackalope is also sometimes referred to as the 'horny rabbit'). However, it can be incredibly dangerous to milk a jackalope, and any attempt to do so is not advised. A peculiar feature of the milk is that it comes from the animal already homogenized on account of the creature's powerful leaps.

The jackalope is now most commonly sighted in the states of Colorado, Wyoming, and Idaho. However, the jackalope does appear to have a European cousin, which in Germany is known as the wolperdinger. In Sweden, a related species is called the skvader.

Starve in the Dark

Listening to all the Hot Air generated by Al Gore's concern about hot air. Reminded me of this article I posted in January of 2005. Still true!

January 31, 2005 The sky is warming!!! Filed under: Uncategorized — boiseboy @ 4:56 pm Since the second grade, when I was taught how to “Duck & Cover” under my desk in case of a Russian Nuclear attack, it seems as if some disaster is about to kill us American baby boomers or a least have us starving in the dark.

So far we have survived:

Rock and Roll Destroying the Morals of American Youth Rap, Punk, Grudge-see above, Air pollution, Water pollution The Cold War (we won), The Space Race (won that one too), The sexual revolution (I lost), Three or Four Energy Crises, At least Two Social Security Crises, Two Impeachments, The Deficit (twice now), The Trade Balance, The Impending Alien Attack (both from Mexico and outer space), Race Riots, Asteroids, Disco, El Nino, El Nina, The Bermuda Triangle, The Trilateral Commission, Downsizing, Supersizing, Impending - Russian world domination, Arab world domination, Japanese world domination, Chinese world domination, Muslim world domination, French world domination (just kidding), OPEC, The pill, Health Food, Cholesterol, Sugar, Grilled Burgers, Butter, High Carbs, Low Carbs, Asbestos, Radon, Mold, 55 mph, Cars Without Seat Belts, High Interest Rates, Low Interest Rates, Endangered Snail Darters and Spotted Owls, The Current/last/next President,

The Younger Generation, Voter Apathy, Congress, News Casters, Democrats, Republicans, The Rich, The Poor, The 18 Year Old or Uninformed Voters, The red states, The blue states Ending Democracy as we know it.

California almost slipping into the sea, Internet Time, The Digital Age, Cable, Talk Radio, The War on Drugs, The Vietnam War, Iraq,

plus, Ted Danson of Cheers predicting that the population explosion would kill us all by the year 2005.

So hopefully you can understand that I expect we will survive Global Warming.

Todd Snider

On March 3, 2007 TODD SNIDER will perform Songs from his new album THE DEVIL YOU KNOW.For twelve years, Todd Snider has been a satirist, class cutup and the rare artist who understands and celebrates the connections between the Dylan, Bill Hicks, John Prine, Mitch Hedberg, Kris Kristofferson, Hunter S. Thompson and Randy Newman. Snider's records are fun even when they aren't being funny, funny even when they're sad, and no less truthful for the laughs. toddsnider.net Opening for Todd will be Gayle Chapman.

Over the years, I have become a big fan of Todd Snider. His Seatle Grunge Rock Blues, finds it's way on many of my playlists! We need to support these types of acts, so we can get more.

$6189.00!!!!

Nancy McIntosh of the Boise Blues Society writes . . . Lori B! and The Boys fundraiser at The 127 Club in Meridian was a raging success! With your fantastic help we were able to raise $6,189.00 to help Lori and the Boys make their trip to Memphis! You people are awesome! Special thanks to the club owners, Tracy and Kay! This is just the start of a wonderful year of blues activities in this darned old Treasure Valley! With that said, check out this short slide show of the night's festivities.http://www.boiseblues.org/News.htm

B!’s a contender

The Boise Blues Society has chosen well. After watching Lori and Her Boys perform at the benefit to raise money to send them to Internation Blues Competion in Memphis, it was apparent that ‘little ‘ol Boise” may win another national competition. lori&boys-web.jpg

It starts with the band! “The Boys" are about the best you can get. The big guys build the foundation. Cory’s stoic delivery on bass is never flashy, just dead on the beat. Combine that with “Funky Music" Bob drums and you have a back line rhythm section strong enought to stand the heat at up front. A bit shy at stage left, "sexy" piano man Rex Miller lets his fingers do most of the talkin’, but man those digits sing. Rex controlled, silky key broad play may be Lori’s secret weapon.

Nathan Jay Moody has seasoned into one one Boise’s most accomplished musicians, at a mere 25, Nathan has a stage presence lacking in many players decades older. His triple their attack includes insightful song writing, unbelievable guitar work and a subtle unique voice. We may lose Nathan to Memphis.

dave&nathan-web.jpgNieghbor Dave Nathan

They don’t call her the ”Queen B!” for nothing and “upfront” means something, let’s say bigger lately. Lori B! and her Boys will be a contender in Memphis. Her sexy, dynamic delivery is just short of to much. From quiet slow blues to the fun and inspiring “the Blues Is a Blessing.” Ms. Lori B! Thomas commands attention and gets it.

We have seen how a focused well prepared team can take the national stage and represent Boise, Idaho. Boisee is predicting another big upset with Lori B! and the Boys.

Special thanks to Kay and Tracy at the 127 in Meridian for letting the BBS have our fundraise at their club. If you haven’t been to the 127 lately, stop by. The ladies have spiffed it up quite nicely.

BTW looks like with all your help we met and likely exceeded the goal of $5000.00 to help cover the cost of the competion.

Bar update-Hanger now the Cheesiest

Mack & Cheese

What can you say about the new bar in the old Hanger location that hasn’t been said about the old Hanger location Well? It is not blue. That is all, Same look, feel, barn like atmosphere that was so successful for the old management.

All sing. . .force the first guy out, take over the place, paint the walls grey and call it macaroni

Should work. It really is called Mack & Charles.

Can't miss this one

This photo could have been an example of “I almost took a beautiful photo yesterday”depot snow web.jpg The Depot was shining as I headed down Federal Way to go into town. Since I was in a rush I almost didn't stop. In fact instead of swinging in to the Catholics parking lot, I rolled down the hill. Fortunately a look back at the clouds combined with the snow made me turn around and go back and take this pic. Glad I did.

Coffee Grind

How many Starbucks are enough. For boisee, 1 is to many. However, the “store locater” at www.starbucks.com lists SIXTEEN retail outlets within 5 miles of 10th and Main in Boise.

Not enough? There are 26 within 5 miles of my bench home!

Kats Gets Streetwise

Kat’s House of Blues in beautiful Downtown Nampa is getting some Blues street cred.Blues belter, Cyndie Lee is taking over as manager. With musical development help from Noble. It is SO good to report some good news on the live Blues scene.

Shotts fired?

Rumor has it the Great "Petta’" has again had to leave town. Boisee heard that his Sports pub in the Spectrum plaza has changed ownership with Shott still owing some rent.A sign on the door speaks of a “management” change and that no coupons etc. will be honored. sports pub-web.jpg It is a good bet he hasn’t paid for radio ads that ran this fall either. Hopefully this is Petta's last Shott.

”Bon Apetit” indeed.

Monday morning fun-Generic Viagra

viagra.jpgThe FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

Thanks Ms. Harper

Lori B!, Boys off to Memphis

The Blues Society is proud to be sending Lori and her band to repersent Idaho at the Internation Blues Contest in Memphis the end of the month. Just need to raise a couple of bucks to send her off. . . Here is part of her e-mail and the flyer. . .flyerbig20copy.jpg

Lori writes, We need to raise a chunk of change and it will take a village! ha ha ha Also, if you would forward this to all of your peeps, I would totally appreciate that too!!!

If you would like to donate anything to the silent auction please let me know ASAP. I would be happy to come pick it up and remember, your donations are TAX DEDUCTABLE. We will be live auctioning off Lori B! and The Boys w/Jo's Traveling Bar for any event you may have. We will have raffle tickets for sale with your fun money for some fun prizes. Also, we will be selling JELL-O SHOTS!!!!!!!!! The 127 serves food and full bar. So, no need to eat before you come. There is plenty for all! If you would like to volunteer to run a casino table, that would be most helpful too. The fundraiser is from 3-8 and I want to be able to rotate people so everyone has a chance to have fun and gamble. We have 2 poker tables, 3 21 tables, and a Roulette table. If there are more people, we will make more tables! :-)

So, as you can see, this should be another fun and crazy party!!! (If you can remember my annual a couple years ago you know it will be fun. There are a few blank spots still, but I am sure fun was had by all!! ha ha ha ha)

Thanks to all of you for all of your support and love. I can't tell you how thankful and blessed I am to have such an awesome group of friends/supporters.

Special thanks to Tracy and Kay at the 127 for their support and providing the fun place to have this fundraiser. If you all don't know them yet, WAIT! They are a HOOT and very fun to party with. You will love them!!! Also, thanks to the Boise Blues Society and their keeping the Blues alive in Boise! We represent Idaho well and hope to make Idaho proud!!!!

See you all on the 20th!!
