Martini Mix-Off 2008-so far,so great

The judging for the Martini Mix Off is 2/3’s over already. Week one featured Tablerock, Bardenay, and Pair. They set the bar high. This last week it was BitterCreek, and the new guys Chandlers and The Modern. With long time masters Mike Rowe and Kevin Farney “on the beach.” The contest seems even more wide open this year. Can’t see a clear winner yet, all the bars so far have worked hard and the competition is fierce. Here are a few of the snaps of the action.

Friday Photo-Jacksons

Herer is a different take on one of Idaho's most favorite signs.

BTW a 12x36 inch canvas will be on display at the market this Saturday!

Also I have been shooting the Martini Mix-off. Will have some photos posted Saturday afternoon.

The Fixx is in

Been hanging (both physically and my pics) at a new coffee joint downtown. The Fixx, is at the corner of 10th and Bannock.

the fixx-8776.jpg

What more could you ask for. The Fixx combines the cool urban feel of a coffee shop with an art gallery. The coffee is good, the staff pleasant and the location is nicely tucked away, just far enough from the downtown core to be more relaxed. They also feature local music on the weekend nights. Look for a special 1st Thursday in June.

Boise City Market

Market McClaskys-8739.jpg Things are warming up at the City Market. The spring produce is coming in and looks delicious. Down on the “Art” block the variety of work is very cool. Lot’s of photographers, glass blowers, illustrators and the like. Come down and check us out. Saturday mornings from 9:30till 1:30. Greg and I “the Streetshooters” are in our usual; space across from the Brick Oven, between Main and the Grove.

Market Honey-8737.jpg

This year I am featuring mostly “Boise” themed work. Both on canvas and conventionally framed.

Monetgo Bay no more

Boise’s most often renamed bar is closed. The former Docksider et al. has a sign on the door thanking us for our patronage. The recent hang out of Nathan Jay Moody is at least for the time being done. With the dock season starting, I’m guessing it won’t be to long before this location re-opens. Although with another new name!

Revolution Blue-CD Review

Revoltion-web-8742.jpg

Former Hoochie Man Ed Hornung recently sent me his new CD. Revolution Blue-Join the Revolution.

There is a lot to enjoy about this CD. It is extremely well produced. You will hear the attention to detail.

Despite the title, the tunes are mostly a hard edged rock. There is defiantly a blues influence here. Rock/blues fans will enjoy the 1st track-“He Don’t Love You”, written by James Lancaster. For a softer touch, look to Ed’s remake of “Caught in Your Spell" (featured on a The Blues Society disc “Another Round)” and “Through The Years.

With a decidedly 70's stadium rock band feel. Revolution Blue is a bold, powerful CD with the sound of a big time release. Let’s hope it turns out that way.

Red Feather Door Locked-The rest of the story

Just walked by the Feather(Wednesday @ noon) and the door is shut. The Bitterceek is packed. Gotta wonder what is the deal.

How rare that you’re the last one to hear, Dave! We’re not serving lunch anymore on the Red Feather side. You can, however, get some of the items from the old RF menu at Bittercreek now. We’re focusing our energies on day-parts that really fit the context of Red Feather… we’re keeping weekend Brunch, Dinner every night, and are still open late for drinks at the bar.
