Le Poulet Rouge

For the second time, a downtown treasure has closed. Le Poulet Rouge was one of the best. With it's French Bistro feel, amazing pastries and food, plus an attentive staff, Le Poulet was fun. Owner/chef Tim Holley worked hard to bring back the magic of old, but in the long run Boise has changed too much from the days when 6th & Main was the center of the city. It just may be that the Poulet was booth ahead and behind the times. I will miss this one!

Martini Mix Off

jensmakesmarti.jpg Stopped by master mixers Kevin at Tapas and Ryan at Pair. The bragging rights are huge this year with all of the employment shuffling. Althought both guys make great drinks. I think Kevin’s ultra classic Nickerbocker may be a contender. Still, the smart money is on Pat at Milky Way's with his Ten Minute masterpiece.

It's Popular!

Scan.jpegThe June issue of Popular Photography and Imaging has been delivered to subscribers. Wayne Kidwell was nice enough to lend me a copy. A photo I took is featured in a Ford ad. Scan 2.jpeg

1st Thursday

A few (ok 3, but one is really big) of my photos will be on display as part of the Fetticini Forum on architecture this Thursday May 4th at the Rose Room downtown.

Pete Wadams Benefit-$$$$UPDATE$$$$

WELL OVER $2100.00 WAS RAISED!!!!!
Swung by Shortys fairly early Sunday, but things were beginning to hop. Special thanks to all who helped and donated to the cause. Even thought I have never met Pete, he must be a hella of a guy to have such friends.

Everyone involved deserves a huge pat on the back, but I would personally like to tip my hat to Opal Stowe and Shortys manager Cory Goldhorn. They always kept me informed and both gave and gave. THANKS, here’s to a speedy recover for Pete.

Sweet Success

Underscore the band of young men who 1st preformed publically at the Blues Jam is becomming quite a big deal. Here is an e-mail from the Band Dad. . . A lot has been happening with Underscore. They auditioned for and received an invitation to play at this years Idaho State Fair on the Midway Stage for a 1 hour set. As soon as I know the exact date and time I will pass it on. The band is also going into the recording studio this Sunday to record an original song to submit to the Boise Blues Society for consideration to be on the annual Blues Society CD. Boise Blues Hopefully the band will have a great recording session and get their entry selected. Everybody keep their fingers crossed for that. They will probably record a couple more tracks too while they are in the studio. Other than that the band is practicing hard and can't wait for their next gig which will be a private Graduation Party in May then another private "School's Out" party in early June then they will be continuing their preparation for the big event on July 16 which will be the Boise Blues Society Picnic at Julia Davis Park. Thanks for all the support from all Underscore fans and don't forget to forward this e-mail to anybody who you think may be interested in following Underscore. I am still looking for any and all e-mail addresses to add to the Underscore fan mail list. Everybody have a great weekend!!

The Eagle is Landing!

The first real festival of the summer is coming up.Head hippie.jpg Head Hippie Jim Teeter and his crew have just about got the I’s crossed and the T’s dotted. The same great food, fun, and frivolity that have made Eagle island a great kick off to the summer will prevail again this year. Mark it down-Friday, Saturday and Sunday. May 19-21.

Boogie No More

There may never be a bar upstairs in the old Mode building again. After several tries, the Portland branch of B W has been quietly selling off the equipment and fixtures. Noticed today that the sign is off of the buildings outside.

The Big Easy+Steven Seagal+Blues = ?????

ACF71B8.gifIf you liked his music-you will love his guitar. Really, I am not making this up. 80’s B movie action star, Steven Seagal is Kung Fu-ing the blues. The Big Easy has him booked for May 25th. In the radio ad he is chopping away at “Before you Accuse Me.” Why do fading stars have to butcher the Blues? Should be country, even Seagal couldn’t make it sound worse!

Hawaiian Typo

My friend Don Outram set this from Hawaii. You though being Boisee.com's copy editor was hard.

Subject: The Tribune-Herald regrets the error.

Setting the record straight

- Ka'enaalohakau'ikaukehakeha Aoe Hopkins of Halau I Ka Wekiu won Thursday night's Office of Hawaiian Affairs Hawaiian Language Award in the Miss Aloha Hula competition, not Kapalai'ula Kamakaleiakawainui de Silva. The Tribune-Herald regrets the error.

State House-Steakhouse

Finally a decent rumor. The long under utilized restaurant in the State House Inn is rumored to be the location of a second Chandler's from Sun Valley. In the heart of downtown Boise, this could be a winner.
